The Seiko Astron HAB011 is the priciest and most limited watch in Seiko’s Edo purple 145th anniversary lineup: $2,900, 2,000 pieces, and the full 5X83 GPS Solar Dual-Time Chronograph under a dusk-purple dial. I haven’t worn one yet, so this review is built on Seiko’s spec sheet and a hard comparison with the two earlier anniversary Astrons. My early read? Right movement for a flagship, but it’s also the biggest case in the series.
Quick verdict: buy it if you want a titanium GPS travel watch that doubles as an anniversary keepsake. If it’s just the purple you’re after, the $900 Alpinist HBC006 from the same series costs about a third as much.

What the Seiko Astron HAB011 actually is
The Edo purple series, announced on August 6, 2026, is the third wave of Seiko’s 145th anniversary, with six watches. Edo was Tokyo’s name before 1868, and the color nods to Kintaro Hattori opening his Ginza shop in 1881. The Astron is the only GPS piece in the set and the only one above $1,000 in the US. It plays a very different game from the fan-voted HBC011 Heritage Diver, Seiko’s other big fall release.
Seiko’s press release says the dial captures the sky at dusk: a vertical gradation crossed by horizontal lines of varying widths, plus gold-colored accents. From the official photos, I agree with Man of Many that the purple doesn’t calm the busy 5X83 layout. What it does is give the gold something dark to sit against.

The 5X83 caliber is the reason it costs $2,900
One button pulls time and time zone from GPS satellites. You also get dual time with AM/PM, a 1/20-second chronograph with a 12-hour counter, world time across 38 zones and a perpetual calendar to 2100. Seiko quotes ±15 seconds a month without a signal and about six months of reserve on a full charge (two years in power save). If a region changes its DST rules, manual selection may be needed.
The anniversary money shows in the materials. Coated titanium case and bracelet, ceramic center links and a two-part ceramic and titanium bezel. Those ceramic links are what I most want to see in person, because that’s where two-tone bracelets either look expensive or mismatched.
How the Seiko Astron HAB011 compares with the other 145th anniversary Astrons
Here are Seiko’s own numbers, side by side:
| HAB011 | SSH186 | HAB004 | |
| Caliber | 5X83 | 5X83 | 5X63 |
| Diameter x thickness | 43.3 x 13.4 mm | 44.1 x 14.4 mm | 43.4 x 12.4 mm |
| Edition | 2,000 | 1,450 | 2,000 |
| MSRP | $2,900 | $3,300 | $2,900 |
Against the SSH186, which runs the same 5X83, the HAB011 is a millimeter thinner and $400 cheaper. The May 2026 HAB004 costs the same, is thinner still and uses the newer 5X63. Its non-limited siblings list at $2,700, a $200 anniversary premium. Seiko hasn’t named a regular twin for the HAB011, so I can’t price its premium honestly.
What Reddit has said so far about the Edo purple Astron
The r/Watches Daily News thread called the HAB011 the technical flagship, but also the piece that fits the purple theme least naturally. I haven’t found HAB011 owner impressions yet, which makes sense with retail starting in October 2026. The closest preview is an r/Seiko owner post on the HAB004.
- Pros: full 5X83 feature set, titanium and ceramic build, smaller and cheaper than the SSH186.
- Cons: 13.4 mm thick, 49.5 mm lug to lug, busy dial, no regular twin to benchmark the premium.
Is the Seiko Astron HAB011 worth $2,900?
For a frequent flyer who wants zero charging and zero apps, yes. If you already own a regular 5X83, you’re paying for the dial, the ceramic links and the caseback, not new functions. If titanium tech is the real draw, Citizen’s ATTESA Mandalorian Beskar is a Super Titanium Eco-Drive chronograph at $1,500.
Where to buy it and what to check before you pay
Seiko US lists it at $2,900 and points buyers to Seiko Boutiques and authorized retailers. Check the “LIMITED EDITION” caseback, the full box set and the dealer’s warranty terms. And measure first: hold a ruler at 49.5 mm across your wrist, because lug overhang is the one thing no amount of purple fixes.
Our Take
I like that Seiko put its most complete GPS movement behind a color with a real story, not a random anniversary paint job. The HAB011 suits collectors who wear their watches on planes and want the anniversary on the caseback.
If size worries you, the HAB004 is thinner at the same price and the Alpinist HBC006 is the budget purple. Themed Seiko fans should also see the One Piece Luffy Gear 5 edition, mechanical chrono fans the Hamilton Resident Evil Requiem, and big spenders the TAG Heuer Monza Flyback 50th Anniversary. It’s sold at Seiko Boutiques and select retailers. Would you take it over the HAB004 or SSH186? Tell me in the comments, and what you’d want measured once one hits a wrist.
