1. About Our Business Model

Do you sell the products directly?

No. Five Star Edition is an independent review site, not a retailer. We research, compare and rate collector’s editions, then point you to a trusted store to complete your purchase. Learn more on our About page.

Why am I redirected to Amazon or another store to buy?

Because we don’t handle sales ourselves. Sending you to an established retailer like Amazon or the official brand store means your order, payment, shipping and warranty are handled by a company built for that job.

Do you make money from the purchase links?

Yes. Five Star Edition participates in the Amazon Associates Program and other affiliate programs, so we may earn a small commission on qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you. Full details in our Affiliate Disclosure.

Does this affect your reviews or ratings?

No. Our scores and recommendations are decided independently of any commission. A product is never rated higher because it pays us more, editorial independence is a core rule for us.

Do you receive free units from brands to review?

Occasionally, but it’s the exception rather than the rule. Most reviews are built from official specs, packaging details and verified owner feedback, and a review unit never guarantees a positive score.

2. Our Rating System & Methodology

How does your scoring system work?

Every edition gets a score out of 5 stars based on a weighted evaluation of build quality, packaging and presentation, exclusivity or rarity, and value for the price. We break this down in each review’s verdict section.

What criteria do you actually evaluate?

Four main pillars: materials and construction quality, the packaging and unboxing experience, how limited or exclusive the edition really is, and whether the extras justify the price over the standard version.

Do you physically test every product, or review it remotely?

Whenever possible we evaluate items we’ve owned or examined firsthand. When that’s not possible, we rely on manufacturer specifications, detailed photos and video, and verified buyer reports, and we’re upfront about which approach was used.

How often do you update prices and availability?

We check prices and stock regularly, but the retailer’s own product page always has the final, real-time price. If our page and the store ever disagree, the store price is the accurate one.

What does the Reddit rating mean and where does it come from?

It’s a separate score that summarizes what real collectors are saying in relevant subreddits and community threads about that specific edition. It’s meant to complement our own rating with independent, crowd-sourced opinion.

3. How We Choose What to Review

How do you choose which editions to review?

We prioritize collector’s editions tied to major movies, games and franchises with genuine search demand and limited availability, and we filter out mass-market items that don’t offer real collector value.

Why do you focus on products linked to recent releases?

New movie, game and franchise launches usually come with time-limited collector’s editions, so interest and stock peak early. Covering them close to launch gives you accurate, timely information while they’re still easy to find.

Can I suggest a product for you to review?

Yes, we welcome suggestions from fellow collectors. Send us the details through our Contact page and we’ll consider it for an upcoming review.

Do you cover products outside the US or only available outside Amazon?

Our focus is the US market, so pricing, availability and buy links are US-oriented. When a worthwhile edition isn’t sold on Amazon, we link to the official brand store or another reputable US retailer instead.

4. Categories We Cover

What types of collectibles do you cover?

Why don’t you cover other categories, like coins or stamps?

We deliberately stay within our ten categories so every review reflects real, hands-on expertise instead of spreading our research too thin. That may expand over time, but it’s a deliberate choice for now.

5. Purchases & After-Sales

What do I do if there’s a problem with my order or shipping?

Every purchase is processed and shipped by the retailer, Amazon or the official store, so contact that retailer’s customer service directly for order tracking, delays or shipping issues.

Can I return a product bought through one of your links?

Returns are handled entirely by the store where you purchased the item, following its own return policy and timeframe. We don’t process refunds or exchanges ourselves.

6. Our Team & Authorship

Who writes the reviews?

Reviews are written by our founder and editor, a lifelong collector who researches specs, compares packaging and evaluates value for money across every category we cover. See our About page for his full bio.

Are they real collectors?

Yes. Our reviews come from genuine collecting experience, not a generic product feed, and that background shapes the criteria we use to score every edition. Learn more About Us.
