The Echoes of Aincrad Aincrad Edition is the only PS5 version of this Sword Art Online action RPG that gives you something to put on a shelf, and at $149.99 it only makes sense if you want the merch as much as the game. I haven’t unboxed it, so this rests on Bandai Namco’s listing, PlayStation Store pricing and community threads.
Quick verdict: buy it if you want every digital bonus plus the physical extras on one disc. Skip it if you only care about playing, because the $109.99 Ultimate Edition covers the same game content.

What does the Echoes of Aincrad Aincrad Edition include?
You get the Ultimate Edition game disc with an upgrade voucher, then four physical goodies: a knit beanie, a wall scroll, patches and a sticker pack.
Nothing here is a steelbook or a statue. The listing never describes a box, so I’d treat this as a disc plus merch bundle. For a figure-centered set, see my Blood of Dawnwalker Collector’s Edition write-up.
Which digital extras come with the disc?
The Deluxe content brings an expansion DLC side story, a Starter Pack (50,000 Col and potions) and an early unlock for Death Game Mode, where death means data deletion.
The Ultimate content adds a roughly 120-minute animation, a digital soundtrack, a digital artbook and an Armor Pack. One commenter says the US animation streams, so don’t expect a disc.
How does the Aincrad Edition compare with the Ultimate and Deluxe editions?
PlayStation Store list prices are $69.99 Standard, $89.99 Deluxe and $109.99 Ultimate, so the Aincrad Edition costs $40 more than the Ultimate for the physical extras alone. The base game plus the $19.99 expansion and $29.99 Ultimate Upgrade Pack comes to $119.97.
Prices checked October 2026. Deluxe is plenty for most players, since the Ultimate adds mainly the anime, soundtrack, artbook and armor.
Is the physical merch worth the extra $40?
The listing gives no sizes, fabric or print details, so I can’t vouch for quality, and $40 for unmeasured merch is a gamble.
I’d say yes if you already hang SAO art. For another view of what a collector’s premium buys, see my Crimson Desert Collector’s Edition piece.
What do players say about Echoes of Aincrad?
Reviews are mixed. But Why Tho gave it 6/10, praising combat and soundtrack but finding the quest loop repetitive. It says Death Game Mode sits behind a full playthrough or a premium edition.
On GameFAQs, in one thread, users say early Death Game Mode comes with Deluxe or Ultimate, and it reportedly needs the second or third save slot. Another thread notes the Japanese release has a Blu-ray for the anime.
Who should buy the Aincrad Edition?
SAO fans who like partner combat and displaying merch get the most out of it. It suits collectors who want the full Ultimate package in one purchase.
Digital-only players should look elsewhere. For a different premium set, my Death Stranding 2 Collector’s Edition review is a start.
Pros
- All Ultimate and Deluxe content
- Four physical extras
Cons
- No sizes or materials listed
- No steelbook or box
Our Take
What I like most is that it keeps every digital bonus and adds a wall scroll and beanie. It’s best for SAO fans on PS5, while Xbox Series and PC get other editions. If you collect gaming sets, Halo: Campaign Evolved and Gears of War: E-Day are worth a look. Check the Aincrad Edition on the Bandai Namco Store, then tell me in the comments what you’d recommend or felt was missing.
